La Roane, in south west France, is peaceful and secluded as well as being easily accessible, with good air, train and road connections.
All courses in 2017 will start and finish mid-week (apart from the 23rd September). This is to avoid expensive weekend flights with unsociable hours and crowded roads, trains and airports.
The usual things: sun cream, a book for the plane (quite a good selection of books in our library), insect repellent (normally very few mosquitoes), a torch for night walks (although we do have several torches), a fleece or sweatshirt for cooler evenings, an outdoor towel (older towels are available should you forget) and some euros (you will find cash machines when we go out on excursions).
Yoga mats, yoga props and indoor towels are supplied.
This is the easiest and most comfortable way to get to La Roane. Toulouse is our local airport, just one hour away. There are regular flights to Toulouse from most major UK airports.
The budget airlines bring out their 2017 schedules around October 2016 and prices are much cheaper if you book as soon as the schedules come out.
I offer a £60 (£30 each way) TAXI SERVICE from Toulouse airport to La Roane on the day the course commences, returning you there a week later (£45 return for 2nd June & 12th September).
However I cannot guarantee to be ready and waiting for every single flight. For the taxi service to work, I must have 2 or 3 passengers in every taxi. I cannot, for example, promise to meet the BA morning flight from Heathrow unless there are at least two people on it. If you are on your own, you will either have to pay for a special taxi (£60 one way), come by train or wait for my next taxi. I will always send a taxi to meet the early afternoon Easyjet flight from Bristol and Gatwick but these passengers MAY have a short wait for other planes from e.g. Brussels and Edinburgh to arrive.
TRY TO GET A FLIGHT THAT ARRIVES IN TOULOUSE BEFORE 6 PM.
As you exit customs, look out for our friendly taxi driver who will be holding up the “La Roane” sign. Don’t rush by! Have a good look around. If you don’t locate our driver then our point of last resort is the cafe on the right as you exit customs, just past the rental cars. Its not a very big airport and we have never lost anybody yet! We will give you the driver’s mobile number before you leave and we will ask you to supply us with yours.
You will be informed of precise pickup times a few days before departure.
CARCASSONNE AIRPORT/RYANAIR FLIGHTS
Ryanair operate flights to the town of CARCASSONNE from Stanstead, Liverpool, Glasgow, Leeds/Bradford, E. Midlands and Dublin. Carcassonne is about 2 hours from la Roane. There is a train service from Carcassonne to our local station of Caussade, Tarn-et-Garonne (see www.voyages-sncf.com or contact me for train times). I don’t operate a regular taxi service from Carcassonne but can organise a taxi to meet you (and any other participants) for £120.
RETURNING TO THE AIRPORT
Most flights from Toulouse return in the afternoon and we usually provide a light lunch before leaving around 1 pm.
N.B. PLEASE AVOID THE EARLY MORNING AND LATE EVENING EASYJET FLIGHTS.
Some people prefer to come by train.
You leave early in the morning from St Pancras on the Eurostar and then ride the metro across Paris. From Paris you can either:
If you are coming ALL THE WAY to La Roane by train, then the taxi ride is on the house! (both ways).
For train times within France see www.voyages-sncf.com. To find out about trains from the UK, try www.raileurope.co.uk (insisting that you are going to Caussade, Tarn-et-Garonne).
You can also drive here. La Roane is about 10 hours from Calais.
